Verandas across Swindon and the SN postcode area
The Good Veranda Company installs verandas, garden rooms and carports across the whole UK. The veranda product and standard installation cost the same in Swindon as anywhere else — we don't charge a location-based premium. The live prices on our Verandas hub apply whether your install is in Swindon, Inverness or anywhere in between.*
*Occasionally additional work is needed — for example, to install around an existing downpipe or flue. Any such site-specific extras are quoted separately at survey.
In the Swindon area we regularly install across the SN postcode district: Swindon town, Royal Wootton Bassett, Highworth, Purton, Stratton St Margaret and surrounding villages. Swindon Borough Council is a unitary local authority; Wiltshire Council covers the wider SN area. Swindon is around 90 minutes east of our Cardiff base along the M4 — well-served by the same motorway corridor as Bristol and Bath.
Swindon planning permission — what you need to know
Most modern aluminium verandas in Swindon fall under Permitted Development rights — no formal planning application required. Swindon Borough Council is the local planning authority for Swindon itself; Wiltshire Council covers the wider SN postcode area. The usual exceptions apply: listed buildings, conservation areas (more common in outer historic villages and Royal Wootton Bassett than in Swindon's modern post-war core) and raised platforms above 30 cm above ground level all typically need planning consent.
We check your property's specific planning status as part of the free survey before you commit. For the full technical rules, see our Veranda planning permission UK guide.
Swindon's climate — one of the drier parts of the UK
Swindon sits in northern Wiltshire, one of the drier parts of England — averaging around 700mm of rainfall a year, notably below the UK average of ~900mm and well under half of what we see in places like Merthyr Tydfil. Summers are warm; winters are cool but rarely extreme.
The practical consequence is that the case for a veranda in Swindon is slightly different from the wetter parts of Wales. It's less about rain protection (though it still matters) and more about season-extension and shade: extending usable outdoor time across the warmer months, and providing practical shade on hot summer days. Swindon's predominantly modern housing stock — post-war and later estates — typically has gardens designed for outdoor living in a way that older terraced housing isn't, so verandas sit naturally on most Swindon properties. Marine-grade coating isn't needed here; standard Dutch-built models are perfectly fine.
