Verandas across Manchester and Greater Manchester

The Good Veranda Company installs verandas, garden rooms and carports across the whole UK. The veranda product and standard installation cost the same in Manchester as anywhere else — we don't charge a location-based premium. The live prices on our Verandas hub apply whether your install is in Manchester, Inverness or anywhere in between.*

*Occasionally additional work is needed — for example, to install around an existing downpipe or flue. Any such site-specific extras are quoted separately at survey.

In the Manchester area we regularly install across all 10 Greater Manchester boroughs: Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Stockport, Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and Wigan — several of which have their own dedicated pages. Main postcode coverage includes M (Manchester), SK (Stockport), BL (Bolton), OL (Oldham), WN (Wigan) and neighbouring WA districts.

Manchester planning permission — what you need to know

Most modern aluminium verandas in Manchester fall under Permitted Development rights — no formal planning application required. The usual exceptions apply: listed buildings need Listed Building Consent, conservation areas often carry tighter controls, and any raised platform more than 30 cm above ground level typically needs planning anywhere in the UK.

Greater Manchester is unusual in that it's served by 10 separate local planning authorities — one per borough — each with its own interpretation of the rules. A Permitted Development approach that's standard in Manchester City Council might be treated differently in Trafford or Stockport. We check your property's specific planning status with the correct local authority as part of the free survey before you commit. For the full technical rules, see our Veranda planning permission UK guide.

Manchester's climate and the case for a veranda

Manchester is one of the wettest cities in England, averaging around 867mm of rainfall a year across roughly 150 rain-days. Put bluntly, that's about two in every five days with measurable rain — significantly above the UK average. For Manchester homeowners, the practical consequence is that the garden is essentially unusable for a large part of the year unless you have some form of cover.

A veranda is the most cost-effective answer. It turns a wet-weather garden into a year-round covered outdoor room at a fraction of the cost of a brick extension or conservatory, and it doesn't suffer the summer overheating problems of fully-enclosed conservatories either. Of the two roof options, glass stays virtually silent in rain (polycarbonate is audibly noisier) — worth considering given how often it rains here. For the full comparison, see our Glass vs polycarbonate veranda roof guide.
